I Saw You

I saw you once
and didn't know that you
could be in two places at once. I didn't
understand the red and pink smile
that you could smile.
And then in three months
I understood. Your beauty
was so subtle that three
months were necessary for
my dull heart and mind
to understand. Your beauty
was so universal that it didn't
create an aura about yourself
like the lesser beauty of others,
but instead enlightened
your room.
I'm afraid that if three
months were necessary for me
to understand your beauty,
a life time will
pass before I forget
it or come to terms with it.
What can I be interested
in besides you? There is no art.
There are no people. Nature,
in all her colorful mysteries
is dirty but for your gently sloping lips.
